Ford Motor Company, in collaboration with the Greater Cleveland Safe Kids/Safe Communities Coalition and the  Rainbow Injury Prevention Center at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, is coming to Cleveland May 10 to demonstrate the future of auto safety, which Ford is pioneering in affordable vehicles today. Ford will showcase the innovations it is rapidly bringing to market to help protect people in crashes and other technologies the company is implementing in its vehicles to help drivers avoid potential dangers.

The outdoor event, which will be held in Lakeside Gardens at UH Case Medical Center, will kick off at 11 a.m. with a press conference featuring Edward Barksdale Jr., MD,  Division Chief, Pediatric General Surgery, and Medical Director, Pediatric Trauma. Live demonstrations of Ford safety features will be conducted until the event concludes at 3 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to see firsthand how Ford is using smart sensors, including radar, camera and wireless technologies, to develop new crash avoidance and driver assist systems that detect and help drivers recognize and respond to collision risks more quickly.

Featured safety technologies  include MyKey™; SYNC®: Traffic, Directions & Information; BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System); Active Park Assist; Integrated Blind Spot Mirrors; and Cross Traffic Alert.

The event also offers a sneak peek at the next-generation, yet-to-be-revealed Ford Explorer, which goes into production later in 2010, and includes the world’s first inflatable seat belts for rear passengers and a next-generation radar-enabled collision warning system.

Please join us Monday May 10, 2010 to experience Ford’s innovative crash avoidance and protection technologies.

Speedway and the Cuyahoga County Safe Communities Coalition join forces to reward motorists for Buckling Up

Just in time for motorists to fuel up and hit the road for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, law enforcement agencies and Safe Communities members partnered with Speedway gas stations across Northern Ohio to remind motorists to buckle their seatbelts before leaving for their destinations.  On Friday, May 28, motorists wearing their seatbelts when they entered select Speedway locations were rewarded on the spot with cookies from Speedway and a Click It FOR a Ticket voucher offering a chance at bigger prizes to be awarded at the end of the Click It or Ticket mobilization in June.

19/43 Action News: CIOT Day and Night enforcement and the Click It or Ticket Rock Hall Gobo

Buckle Up: Most Deadly Crashes Happen at Night!

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) – 19 Action News has uncovered a new reason for you to watch out when you’re driving this weekend—especially at night.  When the sun goes down, the seat belts are apparently coming off. Half of all deadly crashes in Ohio happen at night.  The Cuyahoga County DUI Task Force has just kicked off another Click It or Ticket campaign to get more folks like you to buckle up.  Now, University Hospitals found that over a three year period, during the day 49 percent of people who died in car crashes wore seat belts. But at night, only 31 percent of those who died in crashes had buckled up.  State troopers have added patrols in the Cleveland area on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights–all spring and summer long. They’ll monitor sections of highway where the most alcohol related crashes have happened.  Local cops are stepping up night patrols for the summer season too so click it or get a ticket and be safe!

Channel 3: CIOT Rollover Convincer Demo

Click it or Ticket: Rollover simulation

This is a huge travel weekend, and you’ve probably heard of the “Click it or Ticket” campaign. But many people still don’t wear their seatbelts.   Jennifer Walker from the Rainbow Injury Prevention Center appeared on Channel 3 News Today Saturday morning, to talk about the importance of wearing a seatbelt.

The weather is finally warming up in Cleveland! The summer is one of the most exciting times of the year for families, but it’s also a time when kids can be at risk for injuries. During the summer, Safe Kids Greater Cleveland wants to remind parents and caregivers to be keep kids safe at home and around water during these fun months. Click It or Ticket

The annual Click It Or Ticket campaign started on Monday and this year the Cuyahoga County Safe Communities Coalition and participating police departments have a unique way to get out their buckle up message – painted rocks.  Building on the rock painting and hiding phenomenon, the Cuyahoga County Safe Communities Coalition partnered with Brook Park Police Department and Ford Intermediate to come up with this creative and engaging way to spread an important safety message.

The students at Ford Intermediate have been hard at work painting hundreds of rocks and personalizing each of them with a seat belt message.  Police departments throughout the county received decorated rocks to be hidden throughout their communities with a goal of residents finding them, sharing the message on social media, and rehiding for someone else to find and do the same.  Those who find the rocks are encouraged to post their findings on the Cuyahoga County Safe Communities Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CuyahogaCountySafeCommunities.  The objective is simple:  find a rock, share your find on social media, and rehide the rock to do your part to spread the buckle up message.  If you are interested in getting rocks to hide in your community (or getting more rocks), contact Rachel Farinelli at 216-983-1107 or Rachel.Farinelli@UHhospitals.org.

To continue to spread the Click It or Ticket messages with social media posts and inforgraphics, please check them out here.
